State program and facility licensing
Many healthcare programs can't open, or can't bill Medicaid, until a state agency licenses them. The right agency, license type and requirements differ by state and by program. We sort that out first, then prepare and file everything the state asks for.
What's included
- Confirming which state agency licenses your program and which license types apply
- Initial license applications for new programs and facilities
- Renewals, with reminders well before the due date
- Change of ownership or control
- Change of location, adding services, or changing capacity

How a licensing project runs
Pathway
We identify the licensing agency, the license type for your program, and anything that has to happen first, such as zoning, fire inspection or a certificate of need.
Requirements list
You get one list of everything the state requires: forms, fees, policies, staffing, building and background check requirements, with who is responsible for each.
Application package
We prepare the application and the policies and plans that go with it, and review the package with you before it's filed.
Survey or site visit
If the state inspects before licensing, we help you prepare and respond to anything the surveyor finds.
License issued, then kept current
We record the license number and expiration date and remind you well before renewal.
Licensing is usually step one.
If you're opening a new program, see how licensing fits with accreditation and credentialing.
